As maybe obvious if you’ve read anything here, I have a love for virtual machines. VMWare and virtual box are the two I use most often. I use a lot of VMWare server installs. I must manage 10 of them at various locations.
Good, right? Well now the part that bothers me. 1) I do NOT like the VMware server 2.0 interface. It is painfully slow. So most of the servers I have are still running Sever 1.0.x as I can still use my beloved Server Console (really VMWare? No console for version 2? WTF were you thinking? Seriously. W. T. F?!?!?) Most of the desktops that I use are linux. Ubuntu to be specific. I love Ubuntu. With all it’s faults is still better than XP and Worlds better than Vista. Anyway, I was talking about Vmware Server Console. When I install the console using the tarball package all is well, EXCEPT I get no icon. I’m more than comfortable with the command line. In fact I LOVE the command line. But why should I have to drop to a command line to launch a GUI app? I know I could use alt-F2 and launch it that way, but no launch icon. Really. Anyway, I create one. And I always, always, forget where the icon image is. Always. So I am now going to document it for future reference. The VMware console Icon is located in the /usr/share/doc/vmware-server-console directory.
